Recreational Pilot License

Recreational Pilot Permit

A recreational permit allows you to fly, during the day, in VFR conditions, a single engine aircraft (no high-performance aircraft) that seats a maximum of 4 persons. Only 1 passenger can be on board and flights are limited to Canada. Easily upgradeable to the Private License. No ratings can be added to this permit.   

Details

Prerequisites

  • Training may begin at the age 14, however, you must be 16 in order hold the Recreational Pilot Permit.
  • Class 4 medical, obtained from your family doctor


Requirements

  • A minimum of 25 hours of flight training including:
    • 15 hours dual
      • Including 2 hours cross-country
    • 5 hours solo
  • Although ground school is not required, we suggest the PPL ground school course (40 hours), which includes instruction on air law, meteorology, navigation, and general knowledge.
  • Transport Canada flight and written exams are also required


Course Duration
Training is at the student’s pace and convenience. We recommend completing training in 3-4 months.
